Designed for experienced cybersecurity professionals, the Catalyst’s new Cyber Management Essentials program delivers expert-led training, career coaching, and leadership development to shape Canada’s next cyber leaders.
May 5, 2025 (Brampton, ON) — Today, Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Toronto Metropolitan University announced the launch of Cyber Management Essentials, an innovative and comprehensive cyber management training program — the first of its kind in Canada. This new course is designed to equip cybersecurity professionals with the leadership and strategic skills needed to move into management roles.
Set to begin in September 2025, Cyber Management Essentials addresses a critical need within the cybersecurity industry: preparing technical experts for leadership positions. Over the course of 14 weeks, participants will transition from technical contributors to confident and capable cyber managers through expert-led instruction, personalized career coaching, real-world simulations, and a strong peer network. The program is aligned with industry demand for stronger leadership skills in cybersecurity, particularly in communication — a skill identified as the most critical management quality by 85% of respondents in a recent ISC2 survey.
“Technical excellence is the foundation of great cyber leadership, but on its own, it’s not enough,” said Judith Borts, Acting Executive Director at the Catalyst. “Canada is facing a critical cyber talent gap — not just in technical roles but management, too. This new Catalyst program helps fill that gap by equipping professionals with the practical management, communication, and strategic planning skills they need to confidently step into team leadership roles.”
Through a blend of live-online classroom sessions, preparatory activities, and networking opportunities, participants in the program will experience a hands-on, comprehensive training environment. The course will also cover key leadership topics, including how to build and manage high-performing cybersecurity teams, align security priorities with broader business goals, communicate effectively with executives, and present compelling cybersecurity business cases.
Ideal candidates for the program have at least five years of professional experience, with a minimum of three years in cyber roles, and are looking to advance in their careers.
Thanks to funding support from Upskill Canada powered by Palette Skills, the inaugural cohort is being offered at a significantly reduced fee of $1,300 + HST (down from the full program fee of $3,600.)
Applications open May 12. For more information or to register your interest in advance, visit cybersecurecatalyst.ca/mgmt
