Managing Emerging Cyber Risk Across the Municipal Landscape

Webinar Series

Throughout the spring, Catalyst Senior Cybersecurity Advisor, Randy Purse, completed a three-part webinar series designed to examine the emerging cyber risks associated with the evolving technological and threat landscape across three main areas: municipal administration, critical infrastructure, and building cyber-resilient communities. If you are interested in learning about any of these topics please get in touch to gain some more information.

From the rise of AI adoption, shadow IT, and concentration of cloud services, municipalities are facing more technical debt along with a talent shortage. Join us as we dive into this evolving threat landscape. This session acts as the preliminary briefing to examine these emerging risks through real-world cases. We will provide the foundational strategies while ensuring you are aligned with your municipal goals.

Compliance and cyber risks for municipal critical infrastructure demand active readiness. Serving as a strategic entry point for managing critical infrastructure risks, this session explores the landscape and industry-specific regulatory requirements for establishing your cybersecurity baseline. Leveraging the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security’s Cross-Sector Cyber Security Readiness Goals Toolkit, participants will examine their own use case to identify priority risks and potential mitigations.

As a first step to understanding that cyber threats can affect public safety, disrupt local economies and erode citizen trust, this session explores this impact to the municipality and its citizens. Participants will define roles within a cyber ecosystem, including those of partners and third-party providers. We will introduce collaborative risk mapping and community system categorization to prioritize investments in people, processes, and technology. Drawing on concepts from business continuity planning and emergency management, the need for inter-organizational cooperation in cyber incident response planning will also be explored.
