Multi-language guides available to provide practical cybersecurity knowledge tailored to individuals, students, and families new to Canada
[May 28, 2026] (Brampton & Toronto ON) — Today, Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst (“the Catalyst”), Toronto Metropolitan University’s national centre for training, innovation, and collaboration in cybersecurity, is proud to launch online resources designed to help individuals, students, and families new to Canada navigate digital spaces safely.
Developed in collaboration with Ontario’s settlement sector, the project and its materials were informed by the needs and experiences of newcomer communities.
Available in multiple languages, the resources highlight the unique risks each audience (individuals, students, and families) can be exposed to online and cover topics such as:
- Recognizing and avoiding common online scams
- Steps to take to secure accounts, connections, and devices
- What to do if they think they have been a victim of a cyber scam
- Examples of incidents that should be reported to local police, financial institutions, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre
“Many new Canadians rely intensively on online resources as they build their new lives and careers in this country, but this, as well as barriers of language and tradition, makes them especially vulnerable to scams and cybercrime,” says Charles Finlay, Founding Executive Director of the Catalyst. “The resources that we are rolling out today are designed to support new Canadians in staying secure online as they transition to life in this country. ”
