Our new Sovereignty at Stake series launched on May 6 at the Toronto Reference Library. More than 200 Catalyst community members gathered to hear a vital discussion about the impending Alberta referendum and how disinformation could impact this vote.
The Honourable Jason Kenney, former Premier of Alberta, described the factors giving rise to the separatist movement and his fears of the damage this referendum effort will do to Alberta’s economic and political future. An expert panel featuring Marcus Kolga, Dr. Jennie Phillips, and Dr. Brian McQuinn then discussed the threat of foreign disinformation in the context of this vote, and how separatist-related disinformation is accelerating across the Canadian social media environment.
