Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst partners with Coding for Veterans to deliver cybersecurity training to Canadian veterans

Brampton, ON – May 23, 2023 – Today, Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Toronto Metropolitan University (“the Catalyst”) and Coding for Veterans (“C4V”) announced a partnership to deliver practical cybersecurity training to Canadian Armed Forces veterans and their family members, empowering them to pursue a career in the rapidly growing cybersecurity sector.

The Catalyst Veterans Cyber Range Bootcamp will provide learners with hands-on experiential training in the Catalyst Cyber Range — a unique cybersecurity training platform that provides learning opportunities that are both immersive and ultra-realistic. The program will provide veterans an advantage in securing employment in the cyber sector by giving them the opportunity to practice their newly acquired cybersecurity skills in various real-world cyber events and scenarios.

The program is being generously funded by Rogers Communications and will be offered at no-cost to the learners. This partnership with C4V reflects the commitment of Rogers and the Catalyst to support Canada’s former armed forces members in finding meaningful and rewarding employment. The program recognizes veterans’ particular skill sets and experiences, including a service-oriented and disciplined mindset that make them uniquely suited to the field of cybersecurity.

Coding for Veterans, in collaboration with the University of Ottawa, provides Canadian Armed Forces Veterans a pathway to retrain and reskill for cybersecurity careers. Expanding that program to include a boot camp in the Catalyst Cyber Range underscores our mutual dedication to empowering professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the rapidly evolving digital security landscape.

“This collaboration is vital in our mission to provide innovative, effective, and accessible education,” said Jeff Musson, Executive Director of Coding for Veterans. “The best way to honour the hard work and sacrifice of the men and women in our military is to provide an opportunity to have a good-paying, stable career in Canada’s tech sector after their military service ends.  In partnering with the Catalyst, we are excited to continue this mission and further provide students in our program our learners with the hands-on skills that the cybersecurity industry requires they need to gain employment.”

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Coding for Veterans to deliver this important program,” said Charles Finlay, Founding Executive Director of Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst. “Making our training available to C4V learners will be of immense value to them as they prepare to enter the cybersecurity job market.”

“In the face of the growing cyber-skills gap, this partnership is a win for veterans, for employers and for Canada” said Trish Dyl, Director of Corporate Training & Cyber Range at Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.
